The Ad Hoc Working Group (AHWG) on the Revitalization of the Work of the General Assembly will have a thematic debate on the selection and appointment of the Secretary-General and other executive heads. The General Assembly must regularly examine itself, including its role and working methods, to ensure it is fit-for-purpose and capable of responding effectively, thoughtfully, and meaningfully to the most urgent global challenges. The General Assembly remains the chief deliberative, policy-making and representative organ of the United Nations, as well as the world's premier multilateral forum. As the President of the General Assembly has observed, a stronger United Nations requires a stronger General Assembly.
